A happy soca written in D major and utilizing many common 8th-note based cut-time rhythms and cross-accents, Soca-ing Wet features an easy to hear melody and solo sections for the percussionists. This ensemble was performed by the VanderCook College Percussion Ensemble in a Middle School Percussion Ensemble Reading Session at the Midwest Band Directors Convention in 2002 and is part of the Edge series from C. Alan Publications. It is an exciting and accessible work for early high school or advanced junior high ensembles.
Soca-ing Wet captures that lively sound and feel of the Caribbean region in a percussion ensemble. – Terry O’Mahoney
