performed by the UCF Tuba/Euphonium Ensemble & Kirk Gay, percussion

Impact is an exciting and powerful work for tuba & euphonium quartet plus percussion. Scored for two euphonium, two tubas, and one percussionist on four concert toms, this piece utilizes thick harmonic and rhythmic textures throughout. The concert toms serve as an ideal compliment to this low brass chamber ensemble as they assist in punctuating the many rhythmically unison statements of the work. Interspersed within the energetic opening and closing of the piece are two rich melodically driven passages featuring seamless transitions between voices, rich harmonic progression, and extremely effective ostinati. The ranges demanded within each part are advanced, and the rhythmic requirements and consistently changing time signatures make this an ideal work for college or very advanced high school ensembles.

… a wonderful work for solo percussion and low brass ensemble … excellent for a recital or an ensemble concert … challenging for the performers and engaging for the audience. – Kirk Gay
