Conversations was written for the Chandler Preparatory Academy middle-school percussion ensemble. This introductory level percussion trio features layered ostinati alternating with brief solo breaks and ensemble unison statements to create an effective and pedagogical work that is enjoyable for both performers and audiences alike. Scored for two timpani, cowbell, two wood blocks or temple blocks, snare drum, and hi-hat this piece is approximately two minutes in length and set entirely in common time. Based on the concept of conversation as a collaborative effort, young percussionists will enjoy the ensemble grooves and solo figures while developing musical awareness in this musical conversation.

This beginner-level composition is a groovy little trio … gives the performers just enough feature moments to spotlight each player … a lot here for educators to sink their teeth into … appealing to young players and audiences alike. – John Willmarth
